Welcome back!
I know everyone is well rested and ready to go! The Boosterthon begins this week and concludes with the Fun Run on Friday morning at 9:30-10:30 Please try to attend this fun event!! See the PTA news for more information.
Here is what we will be learning the next few weeks:
Reading Across Genres to Learn about a Topic
Now that we have a firm understanding of the features of a fiction VS non-fiction text, the children will explore genres to learn about a topic: They will understand that there are connections across books and texts of a variety of genres. Rereading a variety of books will be an important emphasis during this unit because students will need to view a text from different lenses - to enjoy, to learn, to understand new vocabulary, and interpret confusing or complex parts.
Writing: Authors as Mentors
Students will understand that good writers use an assortment of crafts within their writing to bring the story to life on the page. Writers often lift the level of their writing by studying mentor authors and adopting crafts that these authors use within their own writing. Good writers revise and edit their work to tell more and write clearly by working with a partner.
Math: Fluency with Addition and Subtraction
Students will understand that strategies help build fluency, which will allow them to become more efficient problem solvers.
Science: Earth in the UniverseRecognize the features and patterns of the Earth/Moon/Sun system as observed from Earth.
Class wishes
Clementines or apples for extra snacks
Scholastic book orders will be sent on Monday-please support our growing classroom library by ordering a book or two! Class code and link to the left.
